CGI National Biennial Conference – June 24-26, 2019

It is hard to already begin thinking about next June when you are just starting a new year. But pitches for professional development dollars need to begin now. The Project for Elementary Mathematics is one of the conference sponsors. Calls for presenters will begin October 1st, 2018. Conference registration will open February 1st, 2019. Multi-step Rich Tasks for 5th

Graders

Newly added to the professional development materials section is a set of multi-step rich tasks aimed at fifth graders (or, with adaptations, 4th or 6th grades).

Welcome back to a new school year! You know school is getting closer because the Minnesota State Fair opens this week. Did you know that it takes 350 squirts of milk from the cow to fill a gallon of milk? There are a lot of interesting facts to learn about where our food comes from. Did you also know that 60,000 rubber duckies are annually dumped into the Chicago River as a fundraiser for the Special Olympic programs?

These materials are designed for students to work collaboratively with others and to pay particular attention to how the units of quantities transform as one multiplies or divides. So remember to follow the units!
